Donald Trump says he lost the popular vote because three to five million people voted illegally.
That claim is an alternative fact. It’s fake news. It’s a big fat lie…
But evidently, Larry Hogan believes it!
As the Baltimore Sun reported, Maryland’s Deputy Secretary of State Luis Borunda is serving on Trump’s trumped-up voter fraud commission.
Sherrilyn Ifill, president and general counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, called the commission “a thinly veiled voter suppression task force... designed to impugn the integrity of African-American and Latino participation in the political process.” And the Washington Post’s editorial board said: “President Trump has empaneled a commission to investigate voter fraud. The real fraud is the commission itself.”
But to Larry Hogan, it’s a great use of his Deputy Secretary of State’s time and taxpayer money.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone who pays attention to Hogan’s record on voting rights. A Hogan-appointed panel tried to move an early voting center out of the most diverse neighborhoods of Montgomery County into an affluent white neighborhood. Hogan vetoed legislation to expand voting rights. And Maryland Republicans support voter I.D. laws.
Add your name to the growing list of Marylanders who are fed up with Donald Trump’s and Larry Hogan’s efforts to suppress the vote.
